More live music coming up ... right after posting on the punk gig last week, the following email popped into my inbox:
Glasgow based rock band Belle and Sebastian will tour Palestine and Israel next week to see for themselves how the age-old conflict has contributed to music and culture in the region.Bring it on :)
Stuart Murdoch and Christopher Geddes will visit the area on the 26 March 2005, and will meet both Israeli and Palestinian musicians trying to forge understanding through music.
They will perform at a gig in Tel Aviv with Israeli band Blackfield, and later will perform with hip-hop groups in the refugee camps in Bethlehem.
Stuart Murdoch from Belle and Sebastian said: “Throughout history, for good or for bad, conflict and poverty have been major inspirations for musicians. There are millions of people in Israel and Palestine who have been affected by this ongoing conflict, and It will be interesting to see how this has manifested itself through music. It's a real privilege to be able to go there.”
